I love children's books. The older the better. :-)
Beatrix Potter has always been a favorite here and the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder have been favorites of mine since childhood. An old book, new to me until a couple of years ago, but now a complete favorite is Jennie Lindquist's "The Golden Name Day". A simply lovely little book.
Hi Mary, I shall order "The Golden Name Day". I enjoy a childrens story about once a month! "East Wind Melts The Ice" came today!! I will mail Housefrau her copy and I think all of us have books. Oh my goodness it is a delightful looking book! I just glanced at the way it was published and am smittened! It should be a most enjoyable read. Happy Spring, Sherry
When I was a child I loved to read Heidi. I haven't read one for years, having sons Heidi wasn't really what they wanted to share:-) The books that I read to them stand out in my mind more strongly, Thomas the Tank Engine was read every evening, they knew the words off by heart and I once found my eldest son 'reading' a story to my youngest, long before he could read properly :-) Also the Mr Men Books - we still all say 'I durpose you dink dat's fuddy' to each other :-)
My favorite is Alice in Wonderland. I used to recite passages from memory, and I even wrote a thesis on the book in college. Oh, and I just bought this version: http://www.jottodotcom.com/pages/alice.html about which I am stoked.
Hm, Chris, I have not heard of this Mr Men, but I am intrigued.
:-) I very much doubt that Q imagined us discussing Mr Men on her book club blog but here goes. Mr Men & Little Misses are perhaps not PC enough nowadays, I don't know, but my children loved them and always giggled when we read them. I still love to hear children laugh :-) http://www.mrmen.com/site/flash/
Oh! Oh! I LOVED those books when I was a kid! I didn't remember the name of the series; I just remembered that Little Miss Shy was my HERO when I was four.
Thanks for the link, Chris. I now know how I will spend my afternoon.
Discussing any and all books is ever so nice! No worries! Little Miss Shy! I remember her. I brought up "Alice in Wonderland" and read some passages this past weekend. I find I qoute from this book rather often. Hummmm... My favorite childhood book was "The Little Engine That Could". Often I will find myself saying to myself, "I think I can."
I have another new book by my bedside :-) Grow Your Own Veg by Carol Klein. Its hard to keep up with so many books but I do need to read up for each planting. Perhaps when all my plants/seeds are in I will be able to catch up with East Wind Melt The Ice! I hope so.
Hi Chris, I do know the need of learning about seeds and when and hows! I also have gardening books I am reading too. Plus I just bought a bird behavior book! I am doing a couple of essays in East Wind before I turn the lights off. I like the right before sleep time for these. I think it might take me a few months to finish this excellent book. Sherry
